We think this is a fantastic idea: Michael Tsu Office of Architecture in Austin, Texas, have created a beautiful feature wall to highlight the impressive spectacle of a bat colony living nearby. Austin is home to the largest urban bat colony in the US and every evening during spring and summer, hundreds of local people gather to watch around 750,000 bats gathering to roost.

The feature wall has been created by filzfelt, an American company that creates incredible wall panels and floor coverings from felt

The feature wall has been created by filzfelt, an American company that creates incredible wall panels and floor coverings from felt. The double-sided wall panel in Michael Tsu’s office has a picture of the bats emerging from under the Congress Avenue Bridge in Austin on one side, whilst the other side has an image of the bats in flight. The panels have been made from 5mm felt layered over a 3mm solid base layer. Hand-stitched details have been added around many of the bats and we think the end result is truly stunning.
