Scandinavian interior design is creating a massive design trend within homes and businesses alike, with the simplistic appearance of products from Norway, Sweden and Denmark, the result is a relaxed design statement with clean lines. Today we are looking at two designs of their most popular chairs; the HÃ…G Capisco and the RBM Noor.
Peter Opsvik believed that the design of a chair forms the basis for physical well-being and that long periods of sitting should not hinder the natural need for exercise. What inspired Peter Opsvik was the position adopted by horse riders who keep their upper body in balance even after hours of riding with assistance from the saddle shape. The saddle shape has influenced the iconic HÅG Capisco seat with the individual design and ergonomic features. The backrest and seat support the body in many sitting positions and reacts to the sudden shift of weight by the user. With endless ways to sit and half-stand, this innovative chair encourages different seat positions that can be adjusted between low and high working positions and all the way to standing position. There are many varied colour variations as well as surfaces and materials that provide a wide spectrum for an eye-catching statement in design. The quality of the material used enforce a long service of life and the manufacturing of the chair uses no harmful chemicals or adhesives. Each model is created from 43% of recycled material and 95% of the chair can be recycled. This environmentally friendly chair has therefore received the ‘Nordic Swan’ Eco Label and has become a front runner in sustainable design.
The RBM Noor chair is a colourful family of canteen and conference chairs. By fusing modern Scandinavian design with traditional craftsmanship, the design creates a stylish and elegant statement. Aimed to influence imagination and constructive thinking, the round seat shell was developed from the basis of human body contours with the surface of the seat adapting to each individual user. Again, there are many different finishes available and there is an option for the seats to be upholstered in different fabrics. The tubular steel sled-type frames are available in different colours with polished or powder-coated surface structures. Legs can also be clear lacquered, stained in dark ash, have wood colours in black or white or have a polished aluminium foot base.
From the elegant, individual but also user focused designs, it seems no surprise that both chairs have become chair icons.
