Lincoln College

Ultimate (Commercial Interiors) Ltd were delighted to be part of the project team for Lincoln College’s new £1.6m Institute of Technology, located in one of the college’s oldest buildings on the Monk’s Road campus, the Grade II listed Gibney building.

The institute’s mission is to deliver higher technical education with a focus on STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) subjects & is a collaboration between Lincoln College, the University of Lincoln and further education providers across Greater Lincolnshire. The facility also supports the health care sectors.

The interior scheme which was designed by Core Architects & once selected as the preferred FFE contractor, Ultimate worked closely with Core & the Lincoln College project team to deliver a dynamic educational environment.

Each learning area was carefully analysed as to what was its primary function, for example agile or fixed PC based tutorial & the furniture package reflected this with mobile workstations, active seating & in the listed building where there were power limitations, Flex Mobile Power was provided. This sleek and smart mobile power charger gives teams and individuals the freedom to work anywhere they want 218 watt-hour capacity & charging via Three (3) USB-C ports and one (1) USB-A port.

We also partnered with the main contractor Gelder Group to supply & install moss, brick effect & timber slat/acoustic wall finishes along with bespoke suspended metal rafts to house the feature planting.

Mellissa McDonnell, project manager, Lincoln College, said: “The new Institute of Technology facility within our Grade II listed building at Lincoln Campus will be a fantastic facility for higher education students.

“Through the project we have purchased cutting edge specialist equipment to support the new STEM courses- they include virtual reality, 3D printing and laser cutting, robotics equipment for electrical engineering and new electric cars within automotive areas. Ultimate’s furniture solution provides the final piece of the jigsaw as it allows the ability to facilitate optimal learning methods.”
