Created as a result of two years of research, it’s clear that for Boss Design this is far more than just another product.
During the lengthy research phase, Boss discovered that even the most sophisticated office chairs are falling short on providing adequate support. They found that most individuals are not using their chairs in the manner advised by ergonomists and manufacturer’s instructions. You can read the full research document here!
It became clear that there was a necessity for functional simplification in the office chair market. The idea was to replace the need for manual adjustment with that of flexibility and a more attractive, human aesthetic.
Collaborating with Martin Ballendat the studio began prototyping organic shapes, testing and refining the chairs design.
The visual impact of Coza is that of a single line. An organic ribbon that sweeps from under the seat, through the arm and over the backrest. The result is a slim and refined shape that compliments the human form, offering an aesthetic unlike any other chair.
The tooling required to produce the body of the chair weighs in at almost ten tonnes. It requires the plastic to be injected at a pressure of 1200 tonnes through a specially designed machine-head. The material itself is a bespoke polymer, finished by robot using anti-static, heat-resistant lacquer.
Coza is available in three standard colours. Pure White, Graphite Black and Azure Blue. Special colours are available upon request against a minimum batch quantity of 200 units.
The base comes in black or polished aluminium, finished with castors or glides depending on the intended floor surface. The upholstered seat is available in any fabric colour or texture.
