Continuing our blog theme of this year’s host of awards, we see that the ‘longlist’ of nominations for the Design of The Year Awards has just been announced and the nominees will go on show at the Design Museum in London next month. We like to keep tabs on these awards as they are a great showcase for the very best in high quality design from around the world. The categories are pretty diverse: architecture, fashion, furniture and graphics are just a few.

Furniture design has always been a very strong category and previous winners have included Laura Wood’s Moon Rock Tables, Jasper Morrison’s Lightwood Chair and Waver, a chair created by Konstantin Grcic. British design is well-represented (which is always nice to see) by Barber Osgerby who has had three of his designs nominated: the Olympic torch, the Tip Ton Chair and his Ascent exhibition of lighting and furniture. It’ll be interesting to see who comes away with an award; previous winners have included an energy saving light bulb and a folding plug! We’ll keep you posted!
