Quick Answers to Common Questions

What is Commercial Fit Out?

01

A commercial fit out is basically the process of transforming a commercial space, like an office, hotel or restaurant into an attractive and functional environment that’s ready for business.

Think of it as taking a blank canvas or existing space, and kitting it out specifically to meet a company’s unique needs, covering everything from flooring, walls and ceilings through to furniture, lighting, tech and décor.

Commercial fit outs generally come in two main categories: Cat A (Category A) and Cat B (Category B).

What is a CAT-A Fitout?

02

A Cat A (Category A) fit out is essentially the first stage of prepping a commercial space, usually an office, making it ready to move onto the next phase of personalisation (Cat B).

It’s the functional canvas stage, so it typically includes: Raised floors and basic flooring, ceilings, lighting and suspended ceiling grids, heating, ventilation and air conditioning systems (HVAC), fire safety systems, basic electrical and mechanical services and general decoration of walls.

The idea of a Cat A fit out is to make the space neat and ready, but still flexible enough for the tenant to customise it with their own brand personality and layout needs in the next stage (Cat B).

What is a CAT-B Fit out?

03

A Cat B (Category B) fit out is where a commercial space is transformed into a fully personalised and functional environment tailored specifically to your business needs.

After the basic setup (Cat A), a Cat B fit out typically includes: partitioning and room layouts: meeting rooms, breakout areas, private offices, furniture and fixtures: Desks, chairs, storage, reception areas, branding elements: logos, signage, feature walls, tech and connectivity: AV setups, IT infrastructure, video conferencing, customised lighting solutions to create specific moods or productivity boosts, Kitchen areas and tea points, artwork, colour schemes, plants and styling that reflect your brand identity and company culture.

In a nutshell, Cat B is where a space becomes uniquely yours, optimised for productivity, style and culture.
