Adding a little greenery to the office is not just a great way to brighten up your office environment – having plants in the office has been proven to bring a range of benefits, including a reduction in stress levels, fatigue, dry skin, headaches and sore throats.
Various studies have been carried out to look into the positive effects of plants in the office and one of the most recent, carried out in Sweden in 2011; found that there was a direct correlation between the number of plants that office workers could see and the rates of sick-leave. Results clearly showed that the more plants that could be seen, the less sick leave was taken.
“People believe plants are healthier are likely to evaluate their own health more optimistically”
One possible explanation is that plants and the microbes found in the soil are effective at removing volatile, organic compounds that can adversely affect health. Dr Tina Bringslimark led the Swedish research team and explained that: “There could also be a psychological explanation in that people believe plants are healthier are likely to evaluate their own health more optimistically.”
We think office greenery is a great idea and including office plants is easier now than ever. Plant displays designed for offices can be hired which is an excellent way to take the hassle out of office plants as care and maintenance of the plants is usually included in the hire agreement.
