We are excited to reveal that we have now fully completed the St Paul’s Mercure hotel in Sheffield city centre. Our brief was to completely refurbish 163 bedrooms in this landmark luxury hotel including all of the corridors over five floors and lounge, restaurant, bar and reception areas. You can read more about the project in our earlier blogs here and here.
The city centre hotel remained fully open during our work. We worked closely with the client to ensure the day-to-day logistics of our work didn’t disturb the normal running of the hotel. We are experienced in working in a ‘live’ environment where businesses remain open during a project. Forward thinking and detailed planning are key in ensuring that our work doesn’t impact on the hotel’s business and experience of the guests.
The main challenges in undertaking such a large project were the tight timescales. The hotel couldn’t afford to have rooms unavailable for long periods of time so we strategically planned out the project. We completed a whole floor at a time and stripped out the unwanted furniture and existing finishes. We then set about refurbishing the rooms in a two phase approach and handed back 16 rooms after just two weeks and then the remaining rooms on the floor two weeks later. This meant the hotel could hire out the newly finished rooms sooner than they expected.
The communal areas which were the restaurant, bar, lounge and reception area posed a different challenge as they were used daily and sometimes late into the evenings by guests. We approached these areas by working nights and starting work at 11pm through to 10 am in the morning and handing back each area daily in a state that meant guests could still use the spaces that same day.
There were quirky features and bespoke elements to the project, including a large leaf shaped coffee table, bespoke feature light fitting that we installed in the front entrance to create a statement entranceway and bespoke leaf artwork in the restaurant and lounge areas.
We completed this large scale hotel project all whist keeping the client and hotel guests happy!
We are extremely proud of the work carried out on this prestigious landmark hotel and we absolutely love the final result.
A true Sheffield landmark the design of this project needed to be special and we think the finished product certainly is. We are very proud to have been appointed to deliver this fantastic refurbishment working closely with Koncept ID who’s design ideas were brilliant.
