It’s always fun to speculate on what the next trends in office design might be and here at Ultimate Office Solutions we thought we’d share a few of our predictions for office design trends in 2014.
Poky cubicles look set to be a thing of the past and it looks at though ‘hot desking’, the concept of moving around the office and working at any desk you fancy, is likely to take office design by storm. Office designs are now likely to include areas of lounge seating, strategically placed to encourage collaborative thinking, encouraging ideas and team-working.

Mobile office furniture is another idea that seems to be a strong design trend for 2014. This idea is simple: not only will desk chairs have wheels but desks and tables will too! Mobile office furniture is becoming increasingly popular and, as above, is being seen as another way to encourage collaborative working by offering workers the option to move around, working next to colleagues as and when they need to.
Plants and greenery are proving a great way to bring the outdoors into the office! More and more office designs are incorporating green areas such as large plants as greenery is known to be effective in helping office workers to avoid that cooped-up feeling that we’ve all had at one time or another….
Our final prediction is that kitchen and dining areas will become a prominent feature of office design. It’s a well-known fact that people tend to congregate in kitchens so employers are utilising our instinct to get-together over food by providing communal kitchen and dining areas in even the smallest of offices.
