The Great Knaresborough Bed Race!

This week we have something a little bit out of the ordinary to share with you. Part fancy dress pageant, part gruelling 2.4 mile time trial, The Great Knaresborough bed race is certainly not your average Saturday spent in the Yorkshire countryside.

On Saturday 13th of June, in support of one of our customers Commercial Estates Group, here at Ultimate we built and created a ‘Bed Tardis’ for the 50th anniversary of what is perhaps one of Yorkshires weirdest and most wonderful days.

Every year since 1966, around 90 teams comprising of 630 people take part in what has grown to be a seriously competitive event. Age old rivalries show up every year, going head to head in a race so fierce it has not once been cancelled since its conception. As is the tradition, the painstaking time trial ends with a particularly icy swim through the waters of the River Nidd.

Meanwhile, hundreds gather to parade with the teams and watch the marching bands and dance groups. Plus hundreds more turn out as volunteers to ensure the smooth running of the event.

From everybody here at Ultimate, we just wanted to say a huge well done to everyone that took part. Team CEG managed to get round in 19.35 minutes (with a hold up of 1 minute at the river crossing) and came 46 out 92 teams that entered.

As ever it was a fantastic day and the weather was very good to us!

Head over to the Knaresborough Bed Race website and you can watch the official video to see what all the fuss was about!
