Writing vs. Typing in the Digital Age

Research has shown that writing can improve learning retention, improve our mood and engage the mind and senses in different ways, sparking connections, creativity and collaboration in a way that typing just doesn’t.

In a world saturated by smartphones, tablets and laptops it’s been observed that notebook sales are on the rise. Moleskine saw a 13% increase in sales in 2016 which indicates that writing surfaces are still valuable in the digital age. However, it’s a combination of both that forms effective learning and collaborative environments.

It seems unusual that Millennials and Gen Z are at the forefront of this trend since they grew up in the digital age. But there is something satisfying about taking notes in meetings or writing a list and being able to cross tasks off. Collaborating and sharing thoughts around a whiteboard provides an experience that technology cannot match. That is why there are so many whiteboards in classrooms, conference rooms, and boardrooms around the world.

A “whiteboard” is a generic term but there are many options: typically composed of glass, painted steel, melamine and CeramicSteel. Read Polyvision’s blog to see why they think CeramicSteel is the best choice.
