Keighley Cougars appeared on ITV Calendar News last week to celebrate their inclusion of the Progress Flag on their 2021 playing kits. Described as always being a progressive rugby league club, with special note to their 2019 pride match, their kit’s design furthers their mission for inclusivity in sport.
“Even if it brings up the conversation, even if it’s just a talking point for people, it’s a great start,” comments their General Manager, Lisa Beckwith-Kinard.
The Progress Flag incorporates the LGBT rainbow with black and brown chevrons to represent people of colour and the pastel blue, pink and white of the trans flag. It was redesigned in 2018 as a drive to be more inclusive of the breadth of identity within the LGBT community.

The impact of the pandemic has resulted in the club not being able to operate for the last twelve months. Lisa comments that this has been an incredibly hard time and they’ve relied on the generosity of their sponsors and volunteers to keep things moving, ready for restarting at a moment’s notice.
Here at Ultimate, we are proud to sponsor such an inclusive and equality driven local team and we’re thrilled to see them back on the pitch!
